In general, there are a few conditions that would prevent you from getting a massage. Of course, do not schedule an appointment if you are feeling unwell, have a fever, cold, or a skin condition that is contagious. The first trimester of pregnancy is generally considered off-limits for massage, as are active chemotherapy or other intensive medical treatments. If you have a serious medical condition and you are unsure if a massage would be safe for you, massage therapists will recommend that you speak with your primary care provider to get approval first.
In general, massages should not hurt. In fact, if you are in pain during a massage, this may cause your muscles to seize up, making the relaxing effects more difficult to achieve. If the pressure is too intense, speak up immediately so your therapist can adjust. Certain techniques may result in soreness during the days following a massage, similar to that of a great workout, but in general, you should not have pain during or after your massage.
Individual preference varies, so for most it depends on your pain, physical needs, emotional needs, and of course, budget. Receiving a massage regularly has the most benefit; this can be as often as weekly or monthly. With our Essentials Membership, you not only can treat yourself monthly but also enjoy other perks and benefits within the spa.
Sometimes it happens. Yet many men avoid massage for fear this will happen to them. Or, they choose to receive the massage but are unable to completely relax out of fear. But there is no reason to be embarrassed. Sometimes men can get an erection during a non-sexual, therapeutic, full-body massage. Touch administered to any part of the body can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which can result in a partial or complete erection. An educated, professional massage therapist understands this, and it should not be an issue for him or her. If you are still concerned, consider wearing more fitted underwear, which provides more support and coverage than traditional boxer shorts. NOTE: If the therapist feels the session has turned sexual for any guest, they may stop the session to clarify the client’s intent and may decide to stop the session immediately. In no circumstance will sexual advances be tolerated in the treatment room.Add an answer to this item.
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience a significant decrease or freedom from long-term aches and pains. Many feel a little slowed down for a short period and then notice an increase of energy, heightened awareness and increased productivity which can last for days.
If you received a deep massage, you may be slightly sore the next day - much like a good workout at the gym. Sometimes a hot shower, or a soak in the tub can ease this soreness.
After your session you should increase your water intake a bit. Just a glass or two more than normal is usually fine. This helps keep your body's tissues hydrated and healthy.
You should undress to your desired level of comfort. Many clients prefer to undress to underwear. This is completely up to you. If you are having a deep tissue with hot oil massage it may be appropriate to wear shorts if there is an element of stretching as part of your treatment. You will undress and dress in the privacy of the treatment room and will be securely covered by towels during the treatment.
You will be properly covered or draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. You should always let your therapist know if you are uncomfortable for any reason during your massage session.
